Rota software for shops, built for part-time hours
Retail rotas are mostly part-time people with different availability, and the floor still has to be covered every hour you are open. Rotasmith counts holiday against the days each person actually works, and warns you before a day off leaves the shop short.
What usually goes wrong
Everybody works different days, so holiday entitlement never adds up.
Leave is counted in shifts against each person's own pattern. Somebody working three days a week is not charged five for a week off.
You approve a day in the diary and only later see it clashes with a delivery or a Saturday.
Set the minimum number of staff the floor needs and the approvals screen checks that day before you say yes.
Hours are guessed from memory at the end of the month.
Staff clock in on a phone or the till-side screen with a PIN, and overtime is worked out against the rota.

Questions
- We only have eight staff. Is it worth it?
- Pricing starts at £39 a month covering up to ten people, so a small shop pays a small bill. Whether it is worth it depends on whether anybody is currently reconciling a rota, a timesheet and a holiday list by hand.
- Can staff clock in on the shop computer?
- Yes. Any device that stays in the shop can be set up as a shared screen, and staff clock in with a four-digit PIN.
- Does it handle staff who work at more than one branch?
- Each branch is usually its own team, and somebody can be rostered into whichever team needs them.
